OTHER DETAILS

What is privet? Why is it a problem?
Chinese privet was introduced to the U.S. in the 19th century for use as a hedge plant in gardens.
Over time it has escaped gardens and has become invasive, outcompeting native plants while offering little to no ecological value.
It crowds out native species that provide wildlife with nutritious food and shelter.
Berries are toxic to mammals.
Nectar and berries are low in nutrients, the birds and insects that eat them become malnourished.
